CFY (Formerly Computers for Youth) Giving ALL 7th Graders a FREE Home Learning Center!
For the second year in a row, CFY will be providing all 7th grade students at Bethune with a FREE Home Learning Center (a desktop computer loaded with educational software) after completion of a Family Learning Workshop. Don't miss the final session on Saturday, January 21, 2012!
Connecting Cultures Mobile Museum Visits Bethune
The week of November 7, 2011, the Connecting Cultures Mobile Museum set up a multicultural exhibition in Bethune Middle School's library. All students at Bethune received the opportunity to visit the exhibition and learn more about different world cultures during their Social Studies classes.
Two Important Adjustments to the Bethune MS Dress Code
This school year, we have made two adjustments to our dress code. Students are still required to wear a white collared shirt, but they may now wear a white, gray or black solid colored undershirt. In addition, students are no longer allowed to bring sweatshirts with hoods to school.
Dea America Murrillo is Bethune's First 2011-2012 Mustang Millionaire!
Congratulations to Dea America Murrillo! In just one month of school, she has read over a million words, meeting the 8th grade ELA standard and setting a great example to her fellow students. We look forward to crowning more Mustang Millionaires as students continue to read more books during Advisory and at home. Keep up the great work!
Bethune Middle School Increases 47 Points on the API!
Congratulations! Bethune increased an impressive 47 points on the Academic Performance Index (API) on last year's California Standards Tests. Our new API is 667, keeping us the highest scoring middle school in Local District 7. We look forward to continuing our progress. Thank you to all students, parents, teachers, staff members and Bethune community members for your hard work!
Back to School Night on October 6, 2011

Tdap Clinic Coming to Bethune on September 14, 2011
This school year, all 7th through 12th grade students in LAUSD are REQUIRED to provide proof or verification of having received the Tdap vaccination. The deadline for submitting all paperwork to the Attendance Office is thirty days after the start of the school year. Bethune will be hosting a Tdap clinic on September 14, 2011 for those who have not yet received their vaccination. Don't forget your Tdap vaccination!

Seventh Grade Bethune Students to Receive a Computer for Home Use through Computers for Youth!
Upon completion of training from Computers for Youth, all eligible 7th grade families will receive a desktop computer to use at home.
Bethune Middle School Exceeds API on the 2010 California Standards Test!!
Bethune students grew 13 points schoolwide on the 2010 Academic Performance Index (API), raising our new API to 619. Go Bethune Mustangs!
Bethune Middle School Transitions to a Traditional Single Track Calendar for the 2010-2011 School Year
The first day of school is Monday, September 13, 2010.
Bethune Receives School Improvement Grant
Bethune Middle School received $500,000 under the School Improvement Grant in order to increase student achievement. Funds will be used for summer intervention for students and professional development for teachers to improve core instruction, integrate technology into the curriculum and enhance the implementation of RTI2 in Personalized Learning Environments.
